Expendable characters. Usually say one line or less before being killed in a plot-convenient manner. Most often seen in classic 60's Trek.

a term used in American college athletics for players, usually freshmen, withheld from competition in order to delay the beginning of their 4-year eligibilty period

The person most likely to die first in any TV show, or film, regardless of what colour sweater they're wearing. Taken from Star Trek the Original Series, where the security guards wore red, one always 'beamed down' from the spaceship to planets on exploratory missions and always died first. Always. Don't ever wear a red shirt on a space mission\!

Crew member / driver / rope puller for the world famous 'Secret Europe of Buddy Bombard' [The Bombard Society] is / was an elite holiday company providing vacations for wealthy Americans throughout Europe by hot air balloon. The RedShirts were the heroes of the operation and thrived on high speed driving, job creation and chasing of client daughters. Binge drinking became synonymous with the coveted RedShirt

A redshirt is one of the basic crew members in the original Star Trek series. In [Aridor] Slave Rescue, every player starts with a redshirt and can use this character to win other characters. Redshirt is a very low-scoring character in all three attributes. The term is also used as a verb. To redshirt someone in the Aridor game is to reduce them to only having a redshirt by stealing (or otherwise removing) all their other slaves. Some players redshirt other players who annoy them, and the term is also used for other situations (e.g. where slaves are taken so they can be retaken to make money, and where someone loses all their slaves through attrition over time) where someone is left with only a redshirt.

Redshirt is not too bad a character, and has a good chance of beating Mariah or Goodnight in a fight. Enigma tried to redshirt me for making fun of him when he was offline, but instead, I nearly redshirted him. If you're offline for a few days, don't be surprised to find yourself redshirted when you get back to Aridor.

7. (redshirt) (24↑, 97↓)
The practice of holding a child out of kindergarten for one year so that the child will then do better academically and socially.

I decided to redshirt my child so that they would be more developed when entering kindergarten.
